Beet show date announced

SUGAR BEET harvesting, handling and business management is to be the focus of a major event organised by British Sugar, in association with the Farmers Weekly Group.

The event will be held at Patrick Dean’s Boothby Heath Farm near Lincoln on Wed 19 October.

The 100ha site will see 17 harvesters and five cleaner loaders at work, with detailed performance evaluations undertaken the day before.

The event, alongside the A15 road south of Lincoln, will be Europe’s only major sugar beet show in 2005.

Trade stands from the industry’s key organisations have been booked and grower seminars will provide timely updates of the sector’s EU reform.

Technical innovations on show will span seed, fertiliser, crop protection and machinery developments.

There will be a strong focus on industry profitability and the likely direction of EU policy reform, explains BS technical communications manager Colin Walters.

“There will be something for everyone to see and with the prospect of a new sugar regime around the corner it is the event nobody will want to miss.”
