Better late than never for Fuego
A NEW TOP yielding spring bean variety has just received provisional recommendation on the NIAB/PGRO* Recommended List.
Final testing of Fuego from Cebeco Seed Innovations has been delayed by a year, but the variety is now set for a market launch in spring 2006, NIAB announced.
“Fuego really does look a bit special, with a yield 8% above the best on the list, very good standing power and good downy mildew resistance,” said NIAB‘s Simon Kightley.
The variety also has characters ideally suited to premium export markets – namely pale, smooth skin and white hilum grain – putting it above the traditional favourite, Victor, he added.
Growers will be able to see plots of Fuego at the NIAB exhibit at this year‘s Cereals show, at Rectory Farm, Guilden Morden, Cambridgeshire on June 15-16.
