Catherine Thompson had finished her barley and rape at Holme House

Catherine Thompson had finished her barley and rape at Holme House, Holme on Spalding Moor, Yorkshire, and was waiting to get started on the oats.

“The barley was very pleasing, but the rape wasn’t as good as last year.” Both the Saffron and Castille were on the floor so she didn’t know exact yields yet.

The 60ha (150 acres) of Gerald and Dalguise winter oats were nearly ripe, although the straw was still green. “We like to get the oats before the wheat so we’ve sprayed them with roundup but it’s probably washed off,” she said.

After that would come 142ha (350 acres) of Alchemy and Gladiator winter wheat, which was not yet ripe.

 Syngenta

Duxford winter wheat is an HGCA Recommended List 2008/09 variety with very high UK treated yields and the top score for resistance to lodging with PGR. Combined with an unbeaten second wheat yield and a balanced disease resistance profile, this new variety from Syngenta Seeds will help UK growers rise to the challenge of producing more grain profitably.
