A new Claas Lexion 600 TT combine branded in Sainsbury’s livery made its public debut at Cereals 2008.

The machine will be used by the supermarket to promote its new two-year flour-sourcing contract. It can cut enough wheat in a day to make 1m loaves.

Under the agreement, all milling wheat that Sainsbury’s needs for its 390 in-store bakeries will be sourced via Grainfarmers from about 300 growers located within a 30-mile radius of Camgrain central grain store at Linton, near Cambridge.

The 34t combine with 35ft cutterbar is believed to be the biggest in the UK.

John Latham, Camgrain chairman whose farming partnership will be operating the combine, has said the new relationship will offer unrivalled provenance direct to Sainsbury’s customers.
