CHECK NOW FOR SKIN SPOT
CHECK NOW FOR SKIN SPORT
POTATO SKIN spot is becoming obvious in stores so thorough checks are advisable, says the BPC.
The disease could be worse this year as it is favoured by cool, wet seasons, especially where crops are lifted wet from heavy soils, it warns. “Now is a crucial time to be checking stores,” says pathologist Jeff Peters. “Unlike other skin diseases, you don’t get symptoms until after Christmas.”
King Edward, Cara and Desiree are particularly at risk, and growers should inspect potato seed brought onto the farm for the coming season, he adds.
