Combines and cultivation kit in action

Harvest has continuing apace this week, with combines rolling across the country and cultivation work already well underway.

FWi’s Harvest Highlights is charting the progress of farmers througout the UK.

Here’s a snapshot – these pictures are among the 500-plus in our Harvest Highlights photo gallery.

Karenza Bailey took this picture (left) of Billy and Matthew Collins of R Collins & Sons, Marazion, Cornwall, cutting winter barley on 23 July. The crop came off at over 3t/acre at a moisture of 14.8%, using a New Holland CX760 and a new TC5050.

The “interesting old brute” is working here with a Simba 13-leg Shakerator type subsoiler, which is mounted onto a tool carrier and works at around 10 inches. “It still earns a good living as one of two primary cultivation tractors based at a farm that covers the Cambs/Beds borders not far from St Neots,” he said.

ForthrightJames also took this harvesting shot (left). “The straw looked a tad green, but the combine seemed to be going well and the straw baled well eventually too,” he said.
