Not only does Hilleshog have two of the only three new varieties on the 2010 NIAB Recommended List for sugar beet varieties and a top performing double-tolerant variety in the pipeline for next year, for the first time it’s also an integral part of the Syngenta stand (1041) at this year’s event.

As the global sugar beet brand of Syngenta Seeds, Hilleshog will show plots including varieties from top-performing conventional types, including new entry Saracen, to Aimanta.

In all, the company has six of the 17 varieties on the 2010 Recommended List.

Saracen enters the new RL as the top conventional performer in 2008 trials, giving 123 adjusted tonnes/ha, plus high sugar yield and very low bolting from both early and normal sowings.

Aimanta enters as the firm’s first rhizomania-resistant variety for the UK and also the UK’s first low-tare, early maturing, rhizomania-resistant type.

Also on show will be new double-tolerant variety, Sentinel, which both resists rhizomania and tolerates beet cyst nematode, and is said to overcome the yield drag often associated with varieties incorporating useful new traits.
