David Fountain takes a break in Whittlesey

David Fountain is taking a break from combining at Delavals Farm, Whittlesey, Cambs, having finished his oilseed rape last Friday (25 July).

The 6ha (15 acres) of Castille averaged 3.7t/ha (1.5t/acre) and came off dry at 8.5% moisture.

“We’d like to think we’ll start the wheat next week (w/c 4 July),” he said. With 202ha (500 acres) of Alchemy, Humber, Glasgow and Solstice to cut, harvest was running slightly later than normal.

Mr Fountain had just sprayed off his Cooper peas, which would be ready to cut in about 10 days time.
