Dow unveils new packaging range for solid pesticides

New environmentally-friendly packaging made from up to 25% recycled plastic is being introduced for Dow AgroSciences‘ range of granular and powder products.

The new design also uses 30% less plastic and does away with foil seals, offering easier disposal. It features a grey plastic container and a green cap made from the same material, which eliminates the need for sprayer operators to separate materials for recycling.

The packaging comes in three different sizes, offering flexibility to pack a range of different products and volumes. Rounded shoulders and a central opening means easier pouring and rinsing of contents, said the company.

Dow has also embedded a company logo into the mould of each container to help guard against counterfeiting.

Sprayer operator Chris Bullen, of PX Farms near Cambridge, has used the products and found they were a significant improvement.

“I was delighted not to have to cut off any foil seal and found the granular product poured far easier from the new design,” he said.

Dow’s marketing specialist James Knight said the new packaging would be introduced first in the UK next summer for the company’s pyroxsulam-based herbicide Broadway Star.

A range of Dow products using the packaging, which will consist of up to 25% recycled plastic, will then be introduced across Europe.
