Early finish for winter wheat in Leicestershire

Einstein winter wheat yielded a disappointing 8.75 t/ha (3.5 t/acre) on Robert Tullis’ Frelsworth Farms, Lutterworth, Leicestershire.

 

Sampling suggested a Hagberg of 300, protein at 12.5% and specific weight at 76 kg/hl. 

 

It was combined at 16-17% moisture. The crop was affected by secondary tillers.

 

Mr Tullis said: “Yields were down by probably about 0.5 t/acre from what we would have hoped for.” 

  

He had 16ha (40 acres) of Justina maize yet to combine, which he said, “looks quite well.”
