Essex Castille and Astrid osr going ok
Carl Juhl of Little farms, near Saffron Waldon in Essex said and he had done 30% of his Castille and Astrid oilseed rape so far and was reasonably satisfied with results.
Crops looked ok and so far yields had been at around 28 cwt/acre (3.5t/ha), he said.
He had Optic spring barley still to harvest and also Robigus and Zebedee winter wheat which he thought both looked similar in terms of quality.
Mr Juhl said the farm was on medium, chalky-boulder clay land which may have helped keep crops standing.
“We’ve had a lot of rain and the forecast doesn’t look very good too say the least either. When the sun shines we’ll harvest.”
