This week saw Frontier kick off its exports with a 3500t shipment of new-crop feed barley on the MV Beaumaiden, bound for Foynes on the river Shannon on the west coast of Ireland.

Frontier’s Jonathan Hoyland said UK farmers and traders had already sold a significant quantity of the UK’s exportable feed barley surplus. “There was a decent trade in March and April, with people locking into prices of about £130/t by selling forward.”

Meanwhile Gleadell sent its last load of old-crop feed wheat out in the MV Suntis from Chatham, bound for Poland. It, too, has begun exporting new crop grains, with its first rapeseed cargo set to load next week.
