Good barley and OSR in Somerset
Richard Payne in Taunton, Somerset, was keen to resume combining again having been stopped by rain for several days.
Twenty hectares of winter barley yielded 8-8.5t/ha with a good bushel weight and nice sample. He said: “I’m pleased at the moment, it doesn’t look too bad.”
He was also pleased with 48ha of Winner oilseed rape which yielded 4.2t/ha and Hearty, which averaged 3.75t/ha. He said it was nice not to have to dry the crop before putting it in the barn.
Mr Payne was hoping to start cutting wheat as soon as he could, he added: “The corn is looking very ripe at the moment, and you can see the grain in the pods.”
