Good harvest so far in Glos – harvest update
Ian Branstone received three and a half inches of rain this week on his farm near Bourton on Water, Gloucestershire, further delaying the wheat harvest.
He‘s worried that with this spell of wet weather Hagberg is going to slip, but in general the crop is looking good.
The oilseed rape is now completely harvested and produced some pleasing results. He reckons it yielded 3.46 t/ha (1.4 t/acre), “I‘m very pleased.”
He grew mostly Escort with a small acreage of Recital as well.
The spring barley has also been harvested. Mr Branstone labelled it “fantastic”. The Optic yielded 6.92 t/ha (2.8 t/acre) and made all the requirements needed for malting.
“The only thing we could do with now is some dry weather,” added Mr Branstone.
