Have your say on sugar reforms

LOBBY GOVERNMENT now on the proposed reform of the sugar beet industry, Makhteshim Agan has told growers.

The company is backing a campaign against the proposed reforms and has posted a proforma letter on its website that growers can download and send to their local MP or MEP.

“The draft EU White Paper proposes wide changes and unfair quota cuts,” said managing director, Paul Jones.

“If implemented unchallenged, it will disproportionately penalise the most efficient producer in Europe, in favour of other countries.

“Thus it is important that the 7000 or so UK beet growers make their feelings known and we hope our draft letter will help in this respect.”

The letter can be downloaded at www.mauk.co.uk/beet.
