Kent Xi19 turning black

Kent farmer Nicholas Baxter said harvest is definitely better than last year. One hundred and twenty hectares of Einstein winter wheat has been cut at 11 – 11.5t/ha, which he is very pleased with.

The crop yielded 9.25t/ha on poorer land, and he said quality was not too bad. His only quality worry is some Xi19 turning slightly black, which he said looks as though is starting to go off.

Mr Baxter said everyone in the area seems to be getting good yields, and moisture is fine. All oilseed rape also yielded well and is better than last year.

He expects to finish cutting wheat  in seven to eight days.
