Late crop next for Bill Harbour

Bill Harbour has finished his early oilseed rape at Gosmere Farm, Faversham, Kent, and is now into the later crop.

“It was very disappointing as it looked so good all the way through,” said Mr Harbour about the early 40ha (100 acres). The Castille and Excalibur both averaged 3t/ha (1.25t/acre) – 1.2t/ha (0.5t/acre) below normal.

Mr Harbour was today cutting the remaining 45ha (111 acres), and was then ready to move into the 40ha (100 acres) of Xi19, sown in early September. “That’s ready to come.”

After that he had Solstice winter wheat and 54ha (133 acres) of Kahuna spring peas to cut.
