Linseed harvest finished

The crop yielded just over 2.5 t/ha (1 t/acre).

“It was better than I thought it was going to be because it had been affected by the rain while it was flowering.”

Half the crop looks good, but the other half looks dull coloured, he added.

The capsules were much smaller than average which is most likely the cause of the lower than average yields, he believed.

He finished his wheat last Saturday (Sept 4).

“We were very lucky down here, all of our seed crop was accepted.”

His Gladiator and Istabraq did particularly well, yielding over 9.88 t/ha (4 t/acre).

The Istabraq had specific weights of 78 kg/hl and both had no screenings.

But he was disappointed with his peas as they were affected by the very dry spell earlier in the year.

Yields ranged from 35cwt to 46 cwt when on average the crop should be averaging 48cwt.

“It was abysmal, but I suppose you can‘t win them all.”

Mr Moore hopes the oilseed rape will get going after the predicted rain this weekend (Sept 11/12).

Overall he said this years harvest has been “relatively average”.
