Low protein in Norfolk wheat
With 21ha of wheat left to cut, Ed Lankfer in Wereham, Norfolk is pleased with harvest. He thinks yields are above average at just under 10t/ha.
Quality was generally ok, although he said milling wheat had not done very well due to low protein levels.
Having grown over 153ha between his and his father’s land, he plans to grow Robigus and Gladiator again next year as they both “yielded amazingly this year”. He also plans to grow Einstein, Alchemy, Claire and Xi19 next year despite not having had good quality from the latter this year.
- Crop/Variety: Claire, Robigus, Gladiator, Einstein
- Area: 43ha of own land, 110ha father’s land
- Yield: 10t/ha
- Quality: Low protein on milling wheat
