Massive beet harvester parades in London

This massive sugar beet harvester was paraded through the streets of London to celebrate all that’s good about UK sugar beet growing at this year’s Lord Mayor’s show.
Thousands of people who lined the streets cheered as the six-row Agrifac Quatro beet harvester wound its way from Mansion House to St Paul’s and on to The Strand.
The harvester was then driven along The Embankment and Queen Victoria Street before arriving back at Mansion House.
The NFU and British Sugar supported the Worshipful Company of Farmers during the show, which had a particular focus on UK sugar beet.
NFU press officer Mike Thomas, who took part in the procession, said: “It’s great that sugar beet farming was given the chance to demonstrate its positive contribution to the UK this year.
“The harvester which I was on was specially signed to show the public some of the positive aspects of the industry including the number of growers, where sugar comes from and the home-grown nature of the industry.
“There were thousands of people lining the streets and it was the perfect platform to be able to engage with them and tell them all about food and farming.”
The Worshipful Company of Farmers, part of the Modern Liveries Company, has taken part in the parade for the past six years with the aim of promoting a better understanding of the economic importance of UK farming in the life of the nation and the close association of farming with the City of London.
This year marked the 684th Lord Mayor’s Show and attracted more than half a million people on to the streets of London, lining the pavements on the three-mile long procession. Millions more watched the live broadcast on BBC1.
