New ally against mildew resistance
A NEW CEREAL mildewicide to help counter resistance to existing products should be available from Certis before the end of the month.
UK growers are the first in Europe to be offered Cyflamid (cyflufenamid), which recently gained PSD approval, says the firm”s Alan Horgan.
With both curative and preventative properties its performance is as good or superior to other products on the market, but its key attribute is its different mode of action, he says.
“It will give growers the chance to chop and change their programmes to deal with resistance. Quinoxyfen, for example, is already breaking down.” ADAS”s Bill Clark confirms that, describing Cyflamid as “a welcome addition”.
“It will be included in HGCA dose response trials next year, though we are not short of mildew products.”
Cyflamid may be used on all winter and spring wheats and barleys, triticale and durum wheat and has no compatibility issues, says Mr Horgan.
At the label dose of 0.5 litres/ha, which may be applied twice up to full flower emergence (GS59), it will be competitive on price, he adds.
Up to now Certis has been more noted for products for specialist crops, he acknowledges.
