New on-planter option for rhizoctonia control in potato seed crops
The label for the rhizoctonia seed treatment, RhiNo DS (flutolanil) has been extended to now include potato seed grown for seed.
Already an established planter applied powder treatment for commercial crops, it will provide an alternative to the RhiNo liquid formulation, says Peter Shakespeare of manufacturer’s Certis.
“It’s ideal for producers who save their own seed but don’t have a roller table set-up for treating with RhiNo liquid. And although we’d continue to recommend the liquid as the number one choice, there are circumstances where treatment on the planter has advantages.
“For example, if liquid treatments are delayed and dormancy has broken, roller table treatments can damage the chits making a liquid treatment unsuitable.”
