NFU man accepts world sugar post

NFU sugar board chairman, Mike Blacker, has been elected a vice-president of the World Association of Beet and Cane Growers (WABCG).


Mr Blacker accepted the post at the 8th World Sugar Conference last week.


He said: “I am honoured to be appointed and look forward to representing the sugar beet interests in this international sugar forum.”


Former NFU sugar beet committee chairman and sugar board member Matt Twidale also received an award for past services to the WABCG.


Mr Twidale has served as a vice-president of WABCG.


WABCG membership includes 21 beet growers‘ organizations and 14 cane growers‘ organisations from more than 30 countries.


Every sugar-growing continent of the world is represented in the WABCG.
