NFU Sugar seeks new board members
NFU Sugar is looking for new growers to join its board and help represent British growers in the sugar beet industry.
Each year, three board positions are available for election. However, this year there will be an additional position available in March following the adoption of a different election procedure.
Board members Robert Baker, of Bury St Edmunds, in Suffolk, Ross Haddow, of Cantley, Norfolk will be retiring and not seeking re-election. While Nick Wells, of Newark in Nottinghamshire will be seeking re-election to the board. Therefore, there will be at least three posts available.
NFU Sugar is the single entity that represents all sugar beet growers in the UK and negotiates on their behalf with British Sugar, the single processor.
The union performs a crucial role in Brussels and Whitehall advising and lobbying MPs and MEPs and influencing legislation on areas that matter most to beet growers.
Cambridgeshire beet grower and NFU Sugar vice chairman Robert Law said: “There are some retirements this year, so we are looking to recruit new people onto the board.
“We are seeking people with enthusiasm and fresh ideas to come forward and stand.”
Details of the rules that apply to the election process and a nomination form are available on the website www.nfusugar.com
