Pearl makes malting in Norfolk
Graham Bunn in Norfolk was pleased with 185ha of Pearl winter barley. He was confident it yielded 6.9t/ha, with one or two of the best fields yielding much better.
The crop made malting standards at 1.75% nitrogen and screenings were low, so he was happy with the results.
He had just started cutting Cocktail spring barley. He said: “It’s not really ripe but we’re ready for it.”
He added: “We’re not thinking about wheat yet in this part of the country, but we’re well on schedule.”
