PGR application moves forward
VARYING GROWTH regulator applications on the move is a feature of a new product under development by Yara.
Based on the N-Sensor package, the new system aims to provide operators with more information on crop growth, by providing a numeric value, based on green area index, says Yorks farmer Clive Blacker, who is involved with Yara.
“The aim is to enable real time PGR application so crop growth can be measured and PGR rate varied at the same time.”
The use of such systems for PGR application is already common in Sweden and Denmark, he says. According to one grower involved in trialling the system, PGR savings can be up to 17% and the system could pay for itself within two years, he adds.
