“Sailing” through harvest in Shrops
Duncan Whiteman in Shropshire is “sailing through” harvest with winter barley, oilseed rape, oats and half the winter wheat finished.
First wheats are doing very well with Robigus yielding over 10t/ha. He said: “It’s really golden, plump and heavy.”
Second wheat Gladiator is averaging 9.4t/ha, however he expects the specific weight to be slightly down in a droughted field. All wheat yields are 20-30% up on last year’s, he said.
Forty-eight hectares of Castille oilseed rape yielded 5t/ha which was 1.25t/ha above last year.
He expects harvest to be finished in 10 days, and has started drilling next season’s oilseed rape.
