Scottish wheat doing well
Twenty percent of 172ha of winter wheat remains to be cut for FARMERS WEEKLY Farmer Focus writer John Jeffrey in Roxburghshire in the Scottish Borders.
Yields were good, averaging 8.75t/ha, with the majority of the crop coming in dry at 16 – 18%.
He said Malacca did well, Claire was good, Robigus was ok but Consort was disappointing. “It just didn’t do as well. It’s a later variety.”
Mr Jeffrey said on the whole harvest has been good this year, with yields slightly up on last year, except for oilseed rape which was “awful”.
