Six new sugar beet varieties added to variety list

Six new sugar beet varieties have been added to the recommended lists for 2008, NIAB has announced.


The additions include Alota and Trinita from Syngenta, Barnowl and Bullfinch from Elsoms, Goya from Nickerson and Pondus from Danisco. Bullfinch and Goya are rhizomania resistant.


There are a total of 22 varieties on the recommended list for 2008 after Roberta, which had been listed for 14 years, was dropped from the new list.


Anemona from KWS and Bandit from Syngenta were promoted from the provisionally to fully recommended category.
