Some progress today in Berkshire

Ennis McEwan of Jealotts Farm near Bracknell, Berkshire had cut very little today before he was rained off at 12:30.

He said he’d been cutting his oilseed rape off and on over the past week.

Sclerotinia had been a problem in the Castille oilseed rape, however so far yields had averaged 3.7 t/ha.

Mr McEwan had 17ha of Sequel winter barley which was ready to cut, but he was waiting to finish his rape first. He said none of the barley was lodged but it did not look particularly special.

He was pleased his Alchemy, Cordiale, and Robigus winter wheat was still standing

He hoped to start the barley at the weekend. “We’ll wait and see and keep our fingers crossed.”

  • Crop: Oilseed rape
  • Varieties: Castille
  • Area: 40ha cut (20ha still to do)
  • Yield: 3.7 t/ha (30% of total)
  • Quality: NA yet
