Spring barley looks fine in Sussex.

William Greenwood of Swanborough Farm, Lewes, East Sussex said he expected to begin Optic spring barley at the end of next week, when FWi rang.

He said his 140ha (350 acres) of barley was standing fine on his chalk based land and he expected it to meet moulting quality.

He said it looked good with no disease at present and was hopeful for its progress.

Mr Greenwood said the forecast looked so-so, but with just the one crop to manage on the farm, he said,”It’s simple for us this year.”
