Sussex six-row lower than 2004
Things are looking about average, according to Nick Matthews from Bartholomew’s in Chichester, East Sussex.
Six-row winter barley yielded 7.5t/ha which was slightly lower than last year but what people expected.
Early oilseed rape yields were about average at 3.75t/ha, he said. “But the early yields are not always the best,” he noted.
Mr Matthews said the wheat had held on remarkably well, despite the heat, but the crops on the lighter ground will be affected.
“Oats are still thin and green, and we hope for a good wheat crop.”
