Variable Hagbergs in Lincolnshire
Hagbergs have been below par this year for Lincolnshire farmer Edward Whitfield. He said 345ha of wheat produced variable yields.
Milling wheats on lighter gravel did not yield so well at 7.5 – 8.75t/ha, but quality was reasonable. Feed wheat on heavy land did reasonably well at over 10t/ha, although Hagbergs were not so good. Hereward Hagbergs were disappointing at 220 – 250.
But Hagbergs for Cordiale were very good at 330 – 350, with bushel weights of 81/82kg/hl, and protein of 12.75%.
Mr Whitfield finished around the same time as last year, but was pleased only 100 tonnes needed drying this year.
He said most crops stood well, except for a small amount of Xi19 grown on black fen land.
