Video: HGCA marks 50 years of arable innovation

A digital animation has been launched to mark 50 years of innovation in arable farming.

HGCA, a division of the Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board (AHDB), created the video to celebrate five decades of achievements in the cereals and oilseeds sector.

The Home Grown Cereals Authority (HGCA) was created on 3 June 1965. Now it is only days away from its next evolution into AHDB Cereals and Oilseeds.

The video will be shown at next week’s Cereals event (10-11 June) at Boothby Graffoe, Lincolnshire, which will see the official unveiling of the AHDB Cereals and Oilseeds brand.

HGCA director Rebecca Geraghty said: “Ultimately, we answer to our levy-payers, so our priority is always delivering the tools and knowledge that cereals and oilseeds businesses need to thrive in years to come.

“Cereals is about meeting those people face-to-face and giving them access to the information they need, as well as highlighting how much we are doing behind the scenes to prepare the industry for what lies ahead.”

Cereals 2015 will mark the official unveiling of AHDB’s simplified family of levy-payer facing brands.

As HGCA becomes AHDB Cereals and Oilseeds, Bpex will become AHDB Pigs, DairyCo will become AHDB Dairy, Eblex will become AHDB Beef & Lamb, HDC will become AHDB Horticulture and the Potato Council will become AHDB Potatoes.
