Wheat almost finished in Warwickshire

Wheat yields are average to good for Roger Mann in Warwickshire. With 75% now cut, he was pleased with results considering the wet sowing conditions last autumn. Einstein came in at 8.75t/ha, second wheat Claire at 7.5t/ha, and Malacca at 8.13t/ha.

Quality was very good, and he hopes bushel weights will be better than he initially thought. He said this good sample could be due to the good weather this harvest with less rain to spoil the crop than last year.

He said oats were about average at 6.9 – 7.5t/ha, but were sown on light land. Oilseed rape was disappointing at 3.13t/ha due to shedding losses and bad weather in July.

Mr Mann hopes to finish wheat tomorrow (August 18) and expects to drop Claire next year because he thinks Einstein and Istabraq are better varieties.
