“We’re just waiting for it to dry up,” he said. “The straw is beginning to turn a bit black but the grain doesn’t look too bad.”
Although some of the Claire, Cordiale and Sahara had lodged, it generally looked well, and tested at 24% moisture on Monday (11 August).
Mr Walker’s 80ha (200 acres) of Sequel, Retriever and Suzuka winter barley disappointed at just below 7.4t/ha (3t/acre). “It didn’t yield as well as it should have done.”
But the Catana and Excalibur oilseed rape came in about average, at 3.5t/ha (1.4t/acre).
