The NFU is encouraging young members of the farming industry to apply for the Cereals Development Programme to be in with a chance of gaining a full range of knowledge and experience in the arable sector.

Successful applicants will meet key industry personnel at research institutions, the British Agricultural Bureau in Brussels and supply chain visits such as Warburtons Bakery.

The programme’s partnership between the NFU and grain co-op Openfield will offer participants the opportunity to investigate key drivers in the arable sector.

It will include media and presentation skills training as well as educational visits to the NFU in Brussels and London and Openfield HQ, as well as many others.

NFU combinable crops board chairman Mike Hambly said: “We have had a very high standard of candidates apply so far, but with just a short time left, we want to ensure that anyone with aspirations of working successfully in arable farming is aware of this fantastic opportunity.

“There’s a huge breadth of experience, education and training on offer and the programme has the potential to have a really positive effect on the careers of young people in arable farming.”

The programme is open to participants aged under 35 and the deadline for applications is next Friday (29 August).
