Grade 1 farm with full irrigation goes on sale

A good-sized fully irrigated Grade 1 farm in Cambridgeshire is being launched at the end of the month.

Rummers Farm, North Brink, near Wisbech, runs to 562 acres, of which 513 are arable.

Brassicas, potatoes and sugar beet are grown on the high-yielding silt soils and the rotation has included onions, roses, cereals and oilseed rape. A further 36 acres of pear and apple orchards add to the cropping mix. The generally regular-shaped fields have good access from public roads and good farm tracks. Agent George Bramley of Knight Frank said the farm would attract enquiries from commercial farmers as well as investors, but he believed there were more of the latter in the market.

“Rummers Farm is a great investment opportunity. It’s what everyone wants.

It’s an outstanding farm that the market has been dying for all year.”

The land, which is in good heart despite the intensive rotation, offered a diverse income stream for a relatively small acreage, he added. “It is not encumbered with lots of residential properties, though there is the possibility of buying a pair of cottages by separate negotiation.”

A ring main serves the whole farm. A 22m gallon abstraction licence is used to fill a 12m gallon reservoir and for summer requirements.

Buildings include a range of specialist vegetable and fruit storage buildings that hold 1,800t and 580t respectively, additional storage and workshop.

Almost 213 single payment entitlements are included in the guide price, which is in excess of £7m. (Knight Frank 020 7861 1069)
