Welsh taxpayers to have say on land management

Welsh taxpayers are to have their say on whether the country’s main agri-environment land management scheme delivers value for money.

The Wales Audit Office has launched a study into Glastir, and is urging the public to express their views on the scheme.

A key element of the study will be to gather opinions on how clear the aims of Glastir are. The scheme’s design and implementation is another area under scrutiny.

There is £89m a year available for the delivery of Glastir and the outgoing agri-environment schemes.

At this week’s launch of the Welsh government’s proposals on the implementation of CAP reforms in Wales, it emerged that the farming minister, Alun Davies, was not in favour of making Glastir compulsory.

The Welsh government instead wants to implement the European Commission’s original greening proposals.

The consultation runs until 2 August and can be sent to glastir.study@wao.gov.uk
