Aviagen expands into Poland

Leading poultry breeding company Aviagen has started work on a new grandparent unit in Poland – its first foray into the country – in co-operation with local poultry integrator BroMargo.
An agreement of co-operation was signed this week, which will see the construction of state-of-the-art GP facilities, including rearing and laying farms, located near Poznan in western Poland.
“This is an historic day for both companies,” said Aviagen general manager Patrick Claeys. “After a difficult period, the industry in Poland is really expanding and this new farm will help us provide our customers with first-class products and provide real security of supply to the market.”
Sales manager for Aviagen in Poland, Dariusz Kulik, said the location of the GP project was perfect and met the company’s stringent biosecurity standards. “Another vital factor is its proximity to our Hilbersdorf hatchery in eastern Germany,” he added. “Secure supply, chick quality and being close to our customers is the number one priority.”
Construction has already begun and the first placement of Ross chicks is scheduled for the beginning of 2011.
The contract signing took place on Tuesday (18 May) at Aviagen’s Hilbersdorf Hatchery, following a tour of the company’s flagship European site.
