Boost for Welsh dairy sector

Volac has opened a new £8m extension to its whey processing facilities at Felinfach, Lampeter.

The investment, supported by £1.5m of Welsh Assembly funding, includes a new plant that will produce lactose, an ingredient sold to the food processing market. The site’s total output has been increased by 50% to 50,000t.

“The new site will enable Volac to expand its business to include lactose production, which is great news for both the Ceredigion area and the Welsh dairy sector generally,” Welsh Assembly minister for rural affairs, Elin Jones said at the opening yesterday (7 July).
