Browns Food Group buys Hall’s of Broxburn brand

The famous Scottish meat brand Hall’s has been bought by the Browns Food Group.

The brand, which is currently produced at Vion’s Broxburn plant – due to close later this month – had been in danger of going out of production.

The new deal does not include the meat processing plant or slaughtering facilities – pigs are now being sent down to Malton, North Yorkshire, for slaughter – but a total of 50 staff are being retained.

However, an industry source said it was good news for the Scottish pig industry, as the company would be needing the raw material to develop the brand.

Browns finance director Alan Hill said: “We intend to invest heavily in the Hall’s brand, and we will preserve and increase its reputation by offering food that is both good-quality and good value. This will also lead to job creation and security going forward.”

Meanwhile, following the management buyout of the Vion pork division late last year, led by former pork sector managing director Seamus Carr, and backed by private equity firm Endless, the company has rebranded itself as the Karro Food Group.

More information and details about the company’s plans going forward are expected to be unveiled in the coming months.
