Burlane Holsteins entice a keen crowd to dig deep

A BUMPER CROWD produced a sparkling trade at the dispersal of the Burlane Holstein herd and Golden<00AD>calf Company, where south Wales breeders Tegwyn and Mary Davies invested 20,500gns in four of the choicest lots.

Vendors Simon and Claire Powell saw the strongest demand for members of the Tracy family, which comes from the renowned Triuna line developed at USA-based Wilsondale Farms.

And the Davies partnership (trading as Henllan Farms) refused to submit to some challenging bidding when the much-fancied calved heifer Burlane Roy Tracy came up for grabs.

By Roylane Jordan and out of Burlane Mtoto Tracy, she is bred from 10 generations of cows in the top two grades. She was giving a thumping 47.9kg on the day since calving in November and topped the sale at 6500gns.

But Mr and Mrs Davies were determined to claim her for their Caeremlyn herd and dug deep to secure her dam at 5000gns. She had given 11,000gns as a heifer and was in-calf to Fustead Emory Blitz.

Completing a hat-trick of leading bids for Henllan Farms was a 4800gns call for the young cow Bilsrowan RE Rolls. This Emerson daughter calved in December after a 10,000kg heifer lactation.

The fourth big price bound for the Caeremlyn herd was the second calver Goldencalf Celebration Rose. She made 4200gns.

Averages: 114 cows and heifers averaged 1318 with 38 served heifers at 888 and 35 maidens at 505 (Wright Manley).
