Choice of stock farms across regions
Stock farms are to the fore this week as the arable market concentrates on harvest.
Two Argyll farms and a North Yorkshire livestock holding share similar acreages.
Auchnasavil Farm, with 63ha (156 acres) near Campbeltown on Kintyre, is mainly grassland, but includes 30 acres of arable and most of the pasture is ploughable, says agent Strutt & Parker.
The firm is looking for offers of more than £425,000 for Auchnasavil, to include a three-bedroom farmhouse, a farmhouse ruin with development potential, traditional steading and a range of farm buildings.
Currently carrying a suckler herd and a sheep flock, the farm was formerly a dairy holding and has some of the most fertile land in the area.
The slightly larger Largiemore Farm, at Kilkenzie, also near Campbeltown, has 69ha (171 acres) and a guide price of £595,000. With open rolling grassland, Largiemore’s climate, soil and topography give it a long growing season. The farm runs a closed herd of 75 suckler cows and followers, with calves sold at 12 months.
It is well-equipped, with recent investment in the cattle buildings including 80 new cubicles. The land, which has in the past been used for arable, ranges in quality from ploughable pasture to rough grazing.
Largiemore includes a recently renovated six-bedroom farmhouse currently run as a successful bed and breakfast business, a wind turbine and broad coastal views to Ireland, Gigha, Jura, Islay and Mull.
Strutt & Parker is also selling a large block of land at Dunduff Farm, seven miles from Ayr, with a guide price of £1.8m. At 245ha (606 acres), this could support 500 ewes and 100 hogs, as well as about 200 cows with followers.
The land is split between 440 acres of grass leys, 145 acres of rough grazing and 17 acres of woods and is also on offer in two lots. (Strutt & Parker 0141 225 3880)
Moving south to North Yorkshire, George F White has the well-positioned Plover Hall Farm near Barnard Castle on the market as a whole or in two lots, with an overall guide price of £905,000.
This upland holding includes a five-bedroom stone farmhouse with traditional buildings and almost 61ha (151 acres) of meadow, pasture and woodland with an 870m run of single bank fishing on the River Greta. Plover Hall has SDA single farm payment entitlements and there is development potential in the farm buildings. (George F White 01388 527966)
