‘Electric’ trade at Holsworthy market

Wednesday’s (20 June) sale proved a busy one, with 480 beef cattle, 84 dairy cows and more than 1,000 sheep going under the hammer.


In the store section, three animals from Christopher Dymond topped at £1,195, £1,150 and £1,145 apiece. A better entry of prime cattle reached £1,365, with the top 10 lots averaging £1,135. “Electric trade” in the cull cow pens saw prices hit £1,241, with premium cull cows at 160p/kg. Cull ewes sold to £115, with lambs averaging 199.6p/kg.


Monday’s (18 June’s) TB-restricted sale also enjoyed a good entry of 129 store cattle. A British Blue heifer topped the day at £1,058, with a Limousin steer reaching £1,045 and Friesian steers selling to £882.
