Ensus relaxes specific weight criteria

Bioethanol producer Ensus is accepting wheat down to 60kg/hl and is assessing the implications of this year’s harvest quality as the season progresses.

The company buys on a standard 72kg/hl contract and last year took in wheat down to 68kg/hl. The plant’s wheat and animal feed manager Stewart Easdon said that the policy would be kept under review as the firm discovered more about the extraction rates of lower bushel weight grain.

The plant is currently processing about 75,000t a month and the current average specific weight had been about 68kg/hl, said Mr Easdon. It is expected that intake will rise to 90,000t a month by the end of the year.
