Farm renewables company Hallmark Power bought out

A one-stop shop for farmers interested in clean technologies is behind the move by renewables company Energea Holdings to acquire Hallmark Power.

Leicestershire based Hallmark Power, which has a large number of farming customers, was acquired following a restructure of its parent company Hallmark Tractors.

Energea, which has significant interests in biomass, solar, battery storage and district energy systems, said it wanted to establish a national multi-technology platform for the agricultural sector.

Claus Jacobsen, managing director of Hallmark Power, said farmers would be able to tap in to a one-stop shop for long-term clean energy technologies.

“Traditionally, companies have come to farmers selling their own technologies – wind turbines, solar PV or anaerobic digesters – but this new concept allows us to sit down with the farmer, industry or local community and apply the best range of renewable technology and the most suitable holistic solution.

“For example, we are working with a farmer that has had a solar PV system and we are now integrating this with an anaerobic digester. The biogas being produced means the farmer can get rid of his LPG system.

“As part of a technology-driven enterprise, we are very excited about the broader opportunities that this move opens up for our customers. Developments in battery storage will become particularly beneficial for future energy management as Feed-in Tariffs [Fits] continue to become less attractive.

Last week, the government implemented its cuts to Fits, which saw owners of domestic solar panels receive 4.39p/kWh of renewable electricity generated – down 64% on the 12p they would have received.

Energea spokesman Mark Frost said there was growing recognition of the need for a step change in investment in clean energy technologies, with decentralised energy management becoming key.

“Technological advances are enabling a shift in the way that energy will be generated, stored and consumed in the future. The development of small-scale, locally managed energy networks is allowing users to take control and manage their own energy supply in a far more efficient and sustainable way.”

Hallmark Power will continue to service and support its customers with all current warranties honoured.

The company will also relocate from Ashby-de-la-Zouch to dedicated premises in Castle Donnington, Derbyshire.
