Farming is one of the most trusted professions

Farming is one of the most trusted professions in the UK, according to a survey by Reader’s Digest.

The survey, which involved 1700 respondents, showed that 82% of respondents thought that farmers were trusted “a great deal” or “quite a lot”.

The only professions to score higher than farmers were fire-fighters, airline pilots, pharmacists, nurses, doctors and teachers.

Interestingly, trust in farmers has also increased by six percentage points since the question was last asked in 2007.

The survey, part of the larger Reader’s Digest Trusted Brands survey, also named Tesco as the most trusted food retailer in the country.

Chris Spratling, managing director Reader’s Digest, said: “Trust underpins every interaction that we make in both our personal and professional lives. Whilst consumer expectations may differ from one profession to another, in a world of ongoing economic uncertainty trust in a profession has never been more important.”
