PROMPTED BY a shortage of organic feeds, the EU is proposing a gradual phasing out of the non-organic feed derogation with 100% organic rations being required from the end of 2011.

On top of this, the DEFRA spokesman said that there would be an extra stipulation that organic producers should use organic ingredients if they are available.
“Non-organic feed ingredients should only be used when organic equivalents are not available.”
