Higher store cattle prices at Stirling Mart

Store cattle prices increased at Monday’s (18 April) sale, with 1,301 cattle going under the hammer.
Bullocks averaged 182.3p/kg liveweight – 1.5p/kg up on the week – and peaked at 231p/kg for a 325kg Limousin, or ÂŁ1,120 a head for four 635kg Simmentals. Heifers averaged 178.9p/kg liveweight – up 1p/kg – and peaked at 222.5p/kg for a 400kg Limousin, or ÂŁ955 a head for a 560kg Limousin. Young bull values increased by 17p/kg, to average 157p/kg liveweight, reaching a top of 188p/kg for a 340kg Limousin, or ÂŁ655 for a 350kg Limousin.
In the sheep ring, 352 store hoggets sold to ÂŁ93 a head, with ewe hoggets peaking at ÂŁ102 and ewes at ÂŁ42. The market’s first sale of ewes with lambs at foot averaged ÂŁ166 for twins.
